On Sunday, June 1st, while on holiday, I received a call from Anja’s mum informing me that Anja had passed away, shortly after her 19th birthday.

It was truly a privilege to witness Anja’s journey through life. She was an extraordinary young woman who excelled in everything she pursued, whether it was swimming, her involvement with the RAF cadets, or her academic studies. Her dedication and drive were truly inspiring.

Beyond knowing Anja personally, I also had the pleasure of working with her during her gap year before she was due to embark on her journey to Edinburgh University. She quickly settled in, made new friends, and gained confidence in her role.

Anja’s parents and sister have shown immense strength during this unimaginably difficult time, and I am incredibly proud of them.
