Over the weekend of 11/12 April 2026, more than 100 Wey Valley swimmers , family and friends will be participating in a 24hr endless relay at the Guildford Spectrum. Not only do we expect to swim a combined 200km, we have targeted raising enough money for a ‘Screening Fund’ to enable local young people to be screened for underlying cardiac conditions in memory of Richard Hennings, a long term member of Wey Valley Swimming Club.
It was during a training session at the Guildford Spectrum in July 2025, Richard suffered acute cardiac arrest and subsequently died poolside, despite the efforts of pool staff, SECAM ambulance crews and the air ambulance medical team. It turned out he had underlying cardiac conditions he was unaware of and so we want to do something that changes this for others.
Wey Valley is a friendly volunteer run competitive community swimming club based in the Guildford / Godalming area with 200+ active swimming members. It has a proud history of both teaching early stage swimmers to nurturing Olympians and international athletes. A large base of the club, including family and friends, will be involved in this event as either a participant, volunteer or fundraiser.
Richard would have been the first to take part in an event like this so please do support us in this special cause.
