A Thames Ditton man is planning to upend his whole life and cycle around the world after a near-death experience. Tom Williamson, 32, is set to travel to Australia on a wooden bike to raise money for a charity that is important to him.

The keen cyclist has set himself the massive challenge after a serious health event, which caused uncertainty but also inspiration. In 2021, while attempting to cycle from Land’s End to John o’ Groats, Tom passed out mid-ride and learned he had a hidden heart condition.
