St Edward's College Fundraising for Raising Awareness Week

“The College has had a long-standing relationship with Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) since the tragic death of 23 year old Kevin Wilson (see pic below), a former pupil and member of staff of the College who died in school in September 2006 as a result of Sudden Death Syndrome.

StEdwardsKevinWilson24 November – 2 December was CRY Raising Awareness Week and a number of initiatives took place at school. During this week the College was also presented with two defibrillators, one of which has been secured by a Year 10 pupil who was inspired to action by the school’s relationship with CRY and the work of the Oliver King Foundation. Read more here.

The College raised over £3460 through the activities that took place during the week. There was also literature available to pupils and parents throughout the week.

Light a Light Remembrance Service
On Monday 26 November we held a short service for the switching on of the lights on our ‘Light a Light’ Remembrance trees. Unfortunately, due to bad weather on the day, the service had to be relocated to the College Chapel, which saw well over 100 people including pupils, staff and parents in attendance, as well as those who had dedicated a light on the tree and the families who had received the dedications. After the service hot drinks and mince pies were served in the College Dining Hall. Over £1,000 was raised through the sale of Remembrance hearts.

Lower School Production
The Lower School Production of ‘Goodnight Mr Tom’ took place over three consecutive evenings. The production was excellent and my thanks go to all the pupils and staff involved, in particular Miss Emma Jenkins, who worked very hard to make the production such a success. These evenings raised a total of £1,350.

Cake Sale
On Friday 30 November, the College Council organised a cake sale which saw many individuals, pupils and staff alike, donating cakes for sale. As always, this was a very popular event and raised £220.

Out of Uniform Day
Friday 30 November was an out of uniform day which raised £890.

Raffle
The Housekeeping staff organised a raffle, with various hampers as prizes. This raised a further £200.”
