A close shave – but no CRY babies in aid of heart charity

A fun-packed event to raise cash for heart disease charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) was held in Airdrie’s Wetherspoons pub.

The Advertiser reported a few weeks ago about the tragic tale of Allyn McCluskie, who died at the age of 24 after a heart attack in May 2009.

The Wetherspoons fundraiser was part of the tremendous, continuous effort of Allyn’s family to raise funds, and awareness of heart disease.

A superb £1,200 was collected on the night and the total is expected to rise to £1,500.

Allyn’s cousin Mark Arbuckle had his chest shaved and his uncle David Arbuckle had his beard shaved off, with raffles also taking place.

As well as Allyn’s family and friends, Airdrie South Councillor Michael Coyle and Alex Neil MSP were on hand to offer their support.

Allyn’s aunt Flora Arbuckle said: “We had a fantastic night made even better by the generosity of the people of Airdrie.”
