Cakes for a Cause in memory of Miriam Kate Lee

Bake sales held throughout the CRY awareness week were well received and generous donations were made in groups that you don’t usually associate with cakes!

Cerys and Rob, Slimming World consultants, however were very keen to help raise as much money for the  Miriam Lee memorial fund as possible. However raising awareness was just as important as the money we raised. Nicola was very grateful to the consultants for the  opportunity to speak to so many people to inform them about SADS and the work of CRY.

The following appeared in the local Northamptonshire Telegraph.

Cakes for a Cause: Slimming World groups raise £500 for CRY

Members of local Slimming World groups have proved that you can mix cake with a good cause, raising an impressive £500 for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) through a bake sale held within Cerys Macwhinnie and Rob Moore’s groups across Northamptonshire.

Members Nicola Lee and David Lee, who attend Cerys’ Slimming World group in Kettering, have a personal connection to the CRY Charity and have a memorial fund in their daughter, Miriam Lee’s, memory.

Tables were packed with everything from low-syn bakes to indulgent classics, all donated by enthusiastic members eager to support the charity’s vital work. Nicola Lee visited 9 sessions in Corby, Kettering and Wellingborough to speak about her personal story and the support that CRY provide to families affected.

CRY provides screening, support, and research to help prevent sudden cardiac deaths in young people—a cause close to the hearts of many attending the event.

“We’re absolutely thrilled with the generosity shown by everyone who contributed, baked, or simply came along to hear more about CRY and the Miriam Lee memorial fund”

“Our members work hard on their own journeys every week, but they also love giving back. Raising £500 is beyond what we expected, and we’re so proud.” Cerys and Rob plan to continue their charity efforts throughout the year, with more fundraising activities already in the pipeline.
