Campaign to raise awareness of cardiac deaths in the young

A campaign featuring the faces of eight young people who have died from a sudden cardiac death was launched on Friday.

One of the youngsters featured on the campaign postcard is 13-year-old Nicholas Thorne, from The Cravens, Smallfield, who died after collapsing during a playground kickabout in 2002.

Charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) want to raise awareness of the condition and hope to get a screening programme which could help prevent hundreds of the sudden deaths each year.

The aim of the postcards is to get people to send them to their MPs, and it is hoped a flurry of the cards will encourage them to join the charity’s All Party Parliamentary Group.
