Cardiff Half Marathon in memory of Craig Daniel Powell

Luke Machine Powell 1 xFollowing the great success achieved on completion of the Newport half marathon back in March, a small number of AC Pontymister players decided to challenge themselves again and aim to complete the Cardiff half marathon.

This time participation was only thought about 3 weeks prior the event taking place, but a determined group including brother of Craig, Luke Powell and ACP players Stuart Goodwin, David Cleere and Elliot Donald was not going to let the small matter of limited preparation stop them.

On completion of the first run near on £900 was raised, so it was decided to use the just giving page already set up to try and take the total past £1000. To date we have passed that total and have now passed £1100. That total is not taking into account the message donations also given by friends and families of the runners. In a space of 2 weeks over £200 was raised in memory of Crag Daniel Powell for CRY.

As mentioned training for the 13 mile didn’t really happen for the runners, Dave had just come back from holiday, Stuart had just come back from being deployed and Luke and Elliot having other work commitments, only a few runs beforehand had taken place. Sole grit and determination was the key for completion.

As all runners play football for ACP, the day before the race was not the normal rest and carb load but taking part in their football duties and all completing 90 minute matches. Race day arrived and with all runners quite stiff from the day before nerves were quite evident. They soon disappeared when the starting gun was fired and the runners where away, all full of desire to finish.

Considering no real training had taken place the time in which the runner’s finished was quite an achievement. With Dave Cleere coming in at 1 hour 31 minutes followed by Stuart Goodwin in at 1 hour 41, then Craig’s brother Luke Powell 1 hour 43 and Elliot Donald in at 2 hours 15.

Another successful event completed by ACP players in aid of CRY and memory of Craig, sure to say it will not be the last and more ideas for fundraising for CRY are already floating around. Watch This Space.
