A Sutton Coldfield family has been nominated for the Goodfella’s Fellas Family of the Year Award 2006.
But before the Whitehead’s neighbours worry, the award is from the Pizza firm and not based on the ultra-violent gangster film Goodfellas.
Jo Bradley-Whitehead nominated her family for the award for the fortitude they have shown through difficult times.
She said: “Two years ago my fit and healthy 26-year-old brother and father to a nine-week old baby collapsed and died from a cardiac arrest. His death was put down to “Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS)” which, according to statistics, is the cause of at least 11 fit and healthy young adult deaths each week.”
Since Richard’s death the family have become involved in raising awareness of SADS and, to date, we’ve collected over £3,000 for CRY, a registered charity which provides vital ECG screening equipment to communities, to help prevent these tragedies in young people.”
Goodfella’s Family of the Year Judge, Vanessa Feltz, said: “All the families who enter are an inspiration to us all.”
