Climbing Snowdon for Dan: Braving the Elements to Raise Awareness of Cardiac Risk in the Young
In March, a dedicated group of friends and family made the journey from across the North of England to the rugged landscape of North Wales — all with one shared purpose: to honour the memory of Dan Cook and to raise vital awareness for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
Their challenge? Climbing Snowdon (Yr Wyddfa), the highest mountain in Wales, standing at 1,085 metres — and doing it in over 30 mile-an-hour winds. The weather was harsh, with biting gusts and difficult conditions that would deter many. But for this group, the cause was greater than the challenge.
Despite the wind and cold, people reached the summit, driven by love, purpose, and the powerful desire to keep Dan’s memory alive while raising awareness about the hidden dangers of undiagnosed cardiac conditions in young people.
This walk was more than just a physical achievement — it was an act of unity, remembrance, and advocacy. Every step taken up that mountain was part of a bigger message: young hearts matter. Too many lives, like Dan’s, are lost too soon to conditions that are often silent but preventable with the right awareness and screening.
To all who walked with us, supported us, and stood by Dan’s legacy — thank you. Your strength in the face of the wind was a reflection of the strength we carry for him, every single day.
All for Dan. Always for Dan. 💙
