A CHARITY football match in Harwich has raised nearly £9,000 for potentially life-saving health screenings in the area.
Harwich and Parkeston FC hosted a charity football match at their Royal Oak ground, with hundreds of people attending.
The money raised will go towards the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) which will use the cash to for Harwich-based heart screenings.
Brian Petley, 70, is the father of Tom Petley who died aged just 20 in April 2022 from sudden arrhythmic death syndrome (Sads).
Mr Petley said the day was “brilliant” and that £9,458 was raised for CRY over the bank holiday at the football event, £8697.23, and Clacton Airshow.
He said a day of screening for about 100 people is £7,000, with a possible venue in Harwich or the surrounding area being considered.
