On 25th June 2025 we lost one of our own, far too soon.
Gemma McGungle joined 18 St John Street Chambers as a pupil in 2011. She went on to build a successful practice as a Barrister in personal injury, clinical negligence and costs law, while also spending a period with our friends in the Costs Department at Irwin Mitchell.
Gemma was a force of nature who filled a room with life and laughter. She was a brilliant barrister, a fierce personality, and a loyal friend, cherished by all who were lucky enough to have met her. She is sorely missed by all at 18 St John Street Chambers and the wider Manchester Legal and Costs Law Community.
With the blessing of Gemma’s husband Simon, and her mum Kay, we are coming together on 24th April 2026 to remember and celebrate a remarkable woman by hosting a charity evening of music at the legendary Night & Day Café in the Northern Quarter, Manchester. Proceeds from the event will be donated to the charity CRY – Cardiac Risk in the Young https://www.c-r-y.org.uk/
Through live bands with loud guitars, and tapping into the unmistakable energy of a Manchester institution, this no-frills, music-forward memorial gig is a tribute to a life lived boldly and joyfully.
Music, memories, and community — exactly the kind of night Gemma would have loved.
Friday 24 April, from 7pm
@ Night & Day Café,
Oldham St, Manchester
