Charity runners do their bit

A runner from Winterslow has raised £1,300 for Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) after completing a half marathon in memory of her friend.

Becky Dovey, 21, who is currently a student at the University of Glamorgan in Wales, completed the 13.1 mile course in Cardiff for her friend Leanne Haddrell.

Leanne, 21, from Tewkesbury, a keen swimmer and water polo player, was studying Sports Studies with Becky.

She died suddenly on May 1 this year.

Becky, a former student of St Edmund’s School in Laverstock, thanked everyone who sponsored her for the half-marathon.

The money she raised will help the charity support those who have lost a young person from sudden cardiac death and help with their mobile screening clinics.
