One hundred young people were screened for undiagnosed heart conditions at an event organised by two mums whose children died suddenly.

The Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) screening event took place at the Fairfield in Barrow and was opened by Barrow Town Council’s deputy mayor Kay Hyland.

The screening program for 14-35 year olds aims to reduce the number of sudden cardiac arrests in young people by detecting abnormalities in time for treatment.

The Barrow screening event is the first in a series taking place across South Cumbria as a result of campaign efforts by Lesley Mease and Donna Parker, who both lost a child to sudden cardiac arrest.
