On Tuesday 2nd July staff and pupils from Wellsway School welcomed Dave Boulton and the other CRYRiders on day 4 of their epic 13 day cycle from Land’s End to John O’Groats in memory of Jack Boulton. They held a CRYRide mini and raised funds towards the final total of CRYRide.
“Congratulations and thank you to all the students from Wellsway, Saltford, Marksbury and St John’s who took part in the CRYride Mini on Tuesday to celebrate the arrival of the CRYride team en route from Land’s End to John O’Groats.
It was a fantastic occasion with a total of 39 teams taking part and cycling out on the track for 3 hours. It was a real pleasure to see Sixth Form students out there competing alongside some very young Primary School pupils. Just before 1pm we welcomed the CRYride team who had set off this morning from Taunton on Day 3 of their 13 day journey.
The students gave them a huge welcome and they were applauded again as they entered Lansdown Hall for a well-earned lunch. We will now follow them with interest as they continue their ride North, reaching John O’Groats next Thursday 11 July.
Following presentation of certificates to all competitors, awards were made to the teams who had managed to complete the most laps: Sixth Form – Winners George Holdaway, Dan George, James Bracey Primary – Winners Saltford Team 8, 2nd Marksbury, 3rd St John’s Wellsway – Winners Harry Davidson, Charlie Kelly, Will Humble, Adam Smale. 2nd Luke Fallows, Harrison Reed, Owen Mc Dermott, Cameron Jenkins Russell 3rd Oliver Maidment, Billy Fletcher, Preston Turner, Lee Curtis.
A big thank you to all the fantastic 6th form students who did an amazing job helping to run the event and to all members of staff involved in supporting in any way, in particular Mrs Gravell who has organised numerous cake sales and did a fantastic job decorating the Hall. Please give generously to the students who are collecting their sponsorship money which is due in at Student Support by Thursday 18th July.”
