Organisers, volunteers and 270 supporters came together on Saturday for an evening of curry and ceilidh in memory of Clarissa. Together, we have raised funds for increased capacity to screen active young people and to diagnose heart conditions which may be undetected due to lack of symptoms.
Wandsworth Civic Suite was bedecked in sunflowers and thistles conveying Clarissa’s joyful and sunny disposition together with our Celtic ceilidh theme. We were delighted to welcome CRY ambassador and BBC News presenter, Ben Brown, to inspire our guests to be generous and to have fun, and to talk about his own association with CRY through dear friends of his, the Clabburns, who lost their son, Tom when he was just 14 to a symptomless cardiac condition. We held a combination of a silent and live auction over curry and then the whole room of reeling novices and pros were choreographed and “called” round the room for the Gay Gordon and Strip the Willow.
It was the perfect way to remember our beloved daughter in the spirit she was fortunate enough to possess – fun loving and always on the go – and to raise important funds so that other families may avert a tragedy like ours and like so many others I have come to know.
