Dunfermline Community Raises £7,000 for CRY Screening Day in Memory of Finlay Rutherford

This year’s Ladies’ Day in Dunfermline, organised by Marie Shevas MBE of Moorelands Travel, raised an incredible £38,000 for charity, with £7,000 of that total donated to Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY). The donation will fund a CRY heart screening day to be held on Monday 24 November 2026, exactly one year on from the sudden death of 15-year-old Beath High School pupil Finlay Rutherford, who passed away after collapsing on a bus from undiagnosed hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Held at the Glen Pavilion on Sunday 3 May, the event welcomed Finlay’s father, Colin Rutherford, who delivered a deeply moving speech to the 300-strong audience about his family’s experience and the urgent need for cardiac screening of young people. Colin shared a poignant reflection that resonated throughout the room: had he known a screening was available for £70, he would not have hesitated to pay for it. His speech, his first public engagement since losing Finlay, was met with a standing ovation.
