Congratulations and a huge thank you to the 74 runners who took part in the Great North Run for CRY on Sunday 11th September 2016. This was CRY’s biggest team yet!

The atmosphere was brilliant, as it always is at the largest half-marathon in the world! Double Olympic gold medallist Mo Farah won the race for the third year running!

It was so lovely to meet 49 CRY runners back at the charity marquee. We were very pleased to be able to congratulate so many of our participants in person, and hand out goody bags, snacks and drinks. Barry Holcombe was the first runner back to the marquee with an amazing time of 1 hour 35 minutes and 52 seconds.

Colin Jackson, Olympic silver and gold medallist hurdler, interviewed CRY runners Richard Boyle, Thomas Wilson and James Peacock for the BBC. Richard ran in memory of his friend Sean Farrell, while Thomas and James ran in memory of their friend Graham Harrison. To view the interview please follow this link www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b07vd3xq/athletics-2016-great-north-run and go to 3 hours 42 minutes 35 seconds.

Once again, we would like to thank each and every one of our runners for their huge efforts in completing the half marathon and fundraising for CRY. They should all be extremely proud of their wonderful achievement. Their time and valued support are truly appreciated.

We look forward to welcoming new and past CRY runners next year, and hopefully seeing some of 2016’s runners taking part again! The date of next year’s event is Sunday 10th September 2017. If you would like to run for CRY in the 2017 Great North Run please email your interest to events@c-r-y.org.uk.
