Inquest told girl's death still mystery

Mystery still surrounds the death of a nine-year-old Telford girl who died after complaining of feeling unwell at her father’s home, an inquest heard today.
Kayleigh Hunt collapsed on the way to the doctors after complaining of chest pains and difficulty breathing at her father, Gareth Hunt’s home in Ketley Bank, Telford.
An ambulance was called and Mr Hunt raced back home where he attempted to resuscitate her on the driveway.
At an inquest at Telford Magistrates Court today, coroner John Ellery recorded a verdict of death by natural causes.
He said: “It is unclear if it was due to a severe asthma attack. There is a strong suggestion that there was a heart-related condition but we can’t say for certain.”
The inquest heard Kayleigh, who had never suffered a major asthma attack, had been visiting her father in November when she began to feel unwell.
“At about 3pm she went upstairs to lie down,” said Mr Ellery. Her breathing had improved but she complained of feeling hot.
“She remained upstairs and because her father was concerned she was having a panic attack, as she had on previous occasions, he took her to the walk-in centre.
“She said her chest was hurting and her lips were blue. She got in to the car and strapped her seatbelt. As the car drove off she collapsed,” added Mr. Ellery.
“An ambulance was called and she was driven back to the house were her father tried to resuscitate her on the driveway,” he said.
Paramedic arrived and she was taken to Telford’s Princess Royal Hospital where she later died.
Kayleigh, a pupil at St Peter’s Primary School in Bratton, lived with her mother Julie Hunt, in Brandon Avenue, Admaston, Telford.
Her mother said after the hearing: “We were expecting that result, it’s disappointing that we can’t find out what happened but we were prepared.”
She added donations at her funeral had gone to Cardiac Risk in the Young.
