I started training for the 2013 Ironman UK in November 2012, after long hard consideration about entering the event. My best friend’s brother – Craig Burling – had tragically passed away through SADS a number of months prior and the decision to do the event on behalf of CRY was an easy one.
I would like to pay tribute to Craig on behalf of Dale Burling and urge all thinking about taking part in an event such as this to do it for CRY – a very, very worthwhile charity.
The training for the event involved long hard hours of training for the various elements of the triathlon – generally 10 to 12 hours of training per week. The race took me 13 hours and 10 minutes to complete and I finished 703rd out of a field of 1600 triathletes.
I would like to give special thanks to my parents, Liz and Pete Johnson, for all their support; and my amazing and patient girlfriend Meg Lord, for all those hours dedicated to training that I did not spend with her. I would also like to thank all my friends for the sponsorship money they have contributed.
