A glamorous masquerade-themed fundraising ball hosted by Cumbrian homebuilder Genesis Homes has raised over £14,000 to support life-saving cardiac screenings for young people across the Eden Valley.

This is the fifth year that Genesis Homes have held a charity ball with staff, suppliers and partners coming together to raise vital funds and awareness for a local cause. This year was in aid of CRY for Eden, its 2025 Charity of the Year.

Founded by Donna Mills in 2023, CRY for Eden funds free heart screenings for young people aged 14 to 35 in response to shocking statistics showing that 12 young people die in the UK every week from undiagnosed heart conditions. Since its launch, the charity has screened more than 1200 young people, referring over 90 for further medical investigation.

On 4th October, guests donned elegant masks for a spectacular evening at The Halston in Carlisle which featured live entertainment, breathtaking acrobatic performances, canapés and drinks on arrival, followed by a sumptuous three-course dinner. The venue was brought to life with dazzling displays and performances from Explosive Productions, creating a truly unforgettable atmosphere.

The money raised will go directly towards funding future screening events in the region, ensuring that hundreds more young people can receive Electrocardiogram (ECG) heart checks that could identify life-threatening conditions early.

Donna Mills, Founder of CRY for Eden, said:

“I’m absolutely over the moon with the incredible amount raised by Genesis Homes through their spectacular charity ball. £14,000 will make a huge impact on our work, allowing us to continue providing free cardiac screening to young people in our community. These screenings really do save lives, and we are so grateful to everyone who supported the event.”

Nicky Gordon, Managing Director of Genesis Homes, added:

“The annual ball is always a fantastic night, but what makes it truly special is the difference it makes to our chosen charity. We’re proud to support CRY for Eden this year and to play a part in not only funding life-saving screenings but raising awareness of the importance of being screened. CRY’s work directly affects young people in our community and I’m hugely grateful to everyone who attended, donated prizes, sponsored the event, and gave so generously on the night. This result is a real testament to the kindness and community spirit of everyone involved.”

Donations from the ball are still coming in and fundraising efforts from Genesis Homes will continue for the remainder of the year to raise as much as possible for CRY. The heart screenings for young people can be accessed free of charge and are booked via the CRY for Eden Facebook page.
