We managed to complete our bike ride from Morecambe to Bridlington on 21st June.
Although it was physically the most challenging thing that the three if us have ever done (and we have all run marathons in the past) we managed to enjoy at least parts of it!
We left morecambe at 5am and were waved off by Mick, Dot and Cath Quinney who’s son and brother, David, we were raising money in memory of. Weather conditions were great and we reached Settle soon after 7am then got stuck into the big hills taking us high into the Yorkshire Dales before dropping into Patley Bridge for a much needed bacon sandwich at 10.30. The route gradually flattened out as we passed through Ripon, Stamford Bridge (another meal) and York making good time. Just as the legs were really tiring, we climbed up and into the Yorkshire Wolds as afternoon became evening. A slight headwind made the last 50 miles feel even harder, but we rode exhausted and emotional into Bridlington at 8pm – 15 hours after setting off, but an hour and a half earlier than predicted.
The vests were great and loads of people were asking us about CRY on the way. Final count still to be made but I think we have raised just over £2000.
