Nickey Russell Completes the ‘Bob Graham’ in the Lakes

Nickey Russell

A massive well done to Nickey Russell for completing my Bob Graham round in an amazing 23hrs 29 mins.

Nickey’s Daughter Tilly met Liv at Veterinary Medicine at University of Nottingham and they immediately became best friends and were inseparable. Nickey wanted to do something to raise awareness and funds in aid of Liv so she set on task to do the Bob Graham course.

Here is a little bit about the Bob Graham:-

The Bob Graham is a 66 mile, 27,000 ft circuit of 42 of the highest peaks in the English Lake District within 24 hours.

First done way back in 1932 by Bob Graham, hotelier of Keswick, Cumberland, at the age of 43, the 42 Peak Round has become a testing ground for the supremely fit. Each summer around 200 of the most highly tuned ultra-distance fell runners will attempt the Round within the allotted 24 hours. Only one in three will return to the Keswick Moot Hall before the clock runs down. Most of the rest will be back again…!

Nickey did try it early in the year but the weather became extremely difficult to complete the course safely due to the extreme weather so 14 hrs, 40 miles and 18500ft in with the weather not improving Nickey made the difficult decision to abandon my attempt and come down off the fell.

It was an amazing experience just thwarted by Mother Nature, but Nickey said she was determined to finish the job, and she did.. (clap)

Nickey’s couldn’t have done it without her my road crew Pamela Anne and Emma Hayden and Tabitha Russell, Tilly Russell and Richard Russell who came out in the rain through the night.

So many other people, who waited to help and cheer her on. The wonderful Bowland fell runners who gave up their time to support, and everyone who watched and messaged.

To date, thanks to you all, Nickey raised almost £2,875 for Livs charity ❤️
