What is Gift Aid?

Gift Aid does not cost you a penny more, but can add an additional 25p to every £1 you donate. When Cardiac Risk in the Young receives a donation from a UK taxpayer, we're entitled to claim an amount of tax (calculated at the basic rate of income tax in that year) paid on that donation. Once you have given your permission for us to do this on your behalf, there is no need for you to do anything else.

All that is required is that you must be a taxpayer and that would have paid or will pay sufficient Income and/or Capital Gains Tax to cover all the Gift Aid claimed on all your donations in that tax year. Please note that it is your responsibility to pay any difference.

The amount of tax we claim will be 25% of the total value of your donations in that tax year. Furthermore, if you are a higher taxpayer, you are also entitled to claim the difference between the basic rate which we will claim and the amount of tax you have actually paid. For further details on how you can do this, please contact your tax office. If your tax situation changes and your gifts will no longer be eligible for the Gift Aid scheme please contact us and we will amend your record accordingly.

Acceptance of any contribution, gift or grant is at the discretion of Cardiac Risk in the Young. Cardiac Risk in the Young will not accept any gift unless it can be used or expended consistently with the purpose and mission of the Cardiac Risk in the Young.

No irrevocable gift, whether outright or life-income in character, will be accepted if under any reasonable set of circumstances the gift would jeopardize the donor’s financial security.

Cardiac Risk in the Young will refrain from providing advice about the tax or other treatment of gifts and will encourage donors to seek guidance from their own professional advisers to assist them in the process of making their donation.

Cardiac Risk in the Young will accept donations of cash or publicly traded securities. Gifts of in-kind services will be accepted at the discretion of the Cardiac Risk in the Young.

Certain other gifts, real property, personal property, in-kind gifts, non-liquid securities, and contributions whose sources are not transparent or whose use is restricted in some manner, must be reviewed prior to acceptance due to the special obligations raised or liabilities they may pose for Cardiac Risk in the Young.

Cardiac Risk in the Young will provide acknowledgments to donors meeting tax requirements for property received by the charity as a gift. However, except for gifts of cash and publicly traded securities, no value shall be ascribed to any receipt or other form of substantiation of a gift received by Cardiac Risk in the Young.

The Cardiac Risk in the Young will respect the intent of the donor relating to gifts for restricted purposes and those relating to the desire to remain anonymous. With respect to anonymous gifts, Cardiac Risk in the Young will restrict information about the donor to only those staff members with a need to know.

Cardiac Risk in the Young will not compensate, whether through commissions, finders' fees, or other means, any third party for directing a gift or a donor to Cardiac Risk in the Young.

On our wedding day, 16.05.26, there was one person we carried in our hearts every single moment my beautiful mum. Although she couldn’t be there with us in the way we wished, we made sure she was included in as many ways as possible throughout the day, because love like hers never leaves a room. From the little touches to the biggest moments, she was with us always. One of the most special parts of the evening was when our best man went around collecting donations in her memory. The kindness, generosity, and love shown by everyone there meant more than words could ever say. What started as a collection became something so much bigger a room full of people honouring an incredible woman who touched so many lives. My mum was the kind of person who made people feel loved, safe, and welcome, and seeing everyone come together for her on such an important day in our lives was emotional beyond measure. Thank you to every single person who donated, shared a memory, gave a hug, or simply spoke her name. You helped turn our wedding day into not only a celebration of love, but also a beautiful tribute to someone we miss every day. Mum, this day was for you too.

Thanks to everyone’s kindness and generosity, we’re delighted to share that the event raised £220 for CRY. Every penny will help support CRY’s vital work—preventing young sudden cardiac deaths through cardiac screening, funding research, and offering bereavement support to families. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended, donated, or lent their support. Your involvement ensures that Nina’s memory continues to inspire and make a positive impact. One moment from the night will stay with me forever: a gentleman approached to thank me for helping save his son’s life. His son had been screened by CRY, uncovering an underlying heart condition. It was a powerful reminder of exactly why this work matters—and something I will always carry with me.
