We recently had a launch party for our new website, which included an auction of film memorabilia, in aid of CRY. We are pleased to announce that we made a total of £283.67 for CRY.
The party was held at Oxygen in London’s Leicester Square, on Thursday January 8th.
Although we had the entire venue to ourselves, the majority of the action took place in the upstairs bar. That is where the film memorabilia was on display and also where members got their free drinks and the free food was available.
Unfortunately – or fortunately, depending on which way you look at it – the upstairs bar did get a bit crowded, which meant it was difficult to see the film memorabilia and place a silent bid, so we opted at the last minute for a normal auction.
Thanks to Steven Goodwin, Sharan Sandhu and Kellie Lawrence for stepping in at the last minute to become impromtu auctioneers.
The film memorabilia was supplied by a third party, at a reserve price. All proceeds over and above the reserve price went to CRY. After deductions to pay the third party, the auction made £216.02 for CRY.
Full details are here, but the items that sold were signed photos of Sean Connery (James Bond); Jack Nicholson (The Shining); Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones (Men In Black); Orlando Bloom (Pirates of The Caribbean); Keanu Reeves (The Matrix); and Kevin Bacon (Death Sentence), as well as a boxing glove, signed by Sylvester Stallone.
Unsold items were subsequently put up for sale on Ebay, with 10% of the final sale value being donated to CRY.
We also had a business card raffle, which was £1 per entry. All entry fees went to CRY. We made £67.65 from the raffle and donations, bringing our final total up to £283.67.
