Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 and 46 2016

Thank you and congratulations to the 49 CRY cyclists who took part in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 and 46 on Sunday 31st July 2016. 41 cyclists took part in the 100 mile event and 8 cyclists took part in the 46 mile one.

The day started with a cool breeze and then slowly got warmer throughout the day – which was a perfect start to the day for all of the riders. The route started from the Olympic Park in Stratford, continued south west to Hampton Court, then down through the Surrey boroughs of Woking and Guildford, before taking on the hill climbs of Mole Valley on the way to the spectacular finish line at The Mall, Westminster.

The CRY RideLondon team wore the CRY branded cycling jerseys during the Ride. This helped to raise awareness for CRY and we received very positive feedback on these. Among those taking part were BBC Radio 2 DJ Jo Whiley and her daughter India who both completed the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 46 in memory of Jannik Lam.

The CRY team were encouraged and supported along the route at Leatherhead by Maria Carter, Jo Pickard and Paddy Wilson, and in Wimbledon by Ben and Becci Robinson and Julien and Rowena Upson. Lindsay Barnes, Diana Hunt and Patricia Nelson cheered the cyclists across the finish line with CRY clappers and flags.

While the event was under way, Jenny Boag, Lucy Bowyer, Kerry Ferne, Sam Griffiths, Phil Houlton, Emma King, Ralph Knox, Cara MacMillan, Pat Nelson, Trudi and Beth Skelding, Nicola Taylor, Theresa Taylor and Rebecca Zouvani began to prepare the CRY reception at the Green Park Hilton Hotel with refreshments, banners, balloons, display boards and massage couches in preparation for the CRY cyclists’ return.

The cyclists started to arrive at the hotel from 11.30am onwards and were welcomed by CRY staff and volunteers. They were provided with a well-deserved massage by Andy Clarke, Paige Kern and Andy Tibbott. They were also offered a shower, some snacks and refreshments after having their photo taken and being handed a CRY goody bag. The massage and showers seemed to go down very well with the cyclists.

Some of the cyclists were met by Trudi, Beth, Emma, Nicola and Ralph in Green Park at the meet and greet area. The atmosphere in Green Park was buzzing as thousands of cyclists enjoyed picnics in the park whilst chatting to other cyclists about their experience.

It was wonderful to meet so many of the CRY team – 24 of the 49 cyclists came to meet us at Green Park and/or the Hilton Hotel.
