Shirley and David Wort are holding their final screening event this weekend after dedicating 20 years to fundraising for CRY and saving young lives.

CARDIAC Risk in the Young (CRY) has paid tribute to Shirley Wort, after she announced she would be stepping back from the charity at the end of the month, after 20 dedicated years of “tireless and unwavering” support.

Shirley began fundraising for CRY following the sudden death of her son, Julian, who was just 28 when he died from a previously undiagnosed heart condition in March 2000.

She will round off over two decades of dedicated support at the end of March with a final heart screening session in the town for young, local people in memory of her son. The screening will which will take place on Saturday 18th March at Julian’s former school, Oakfied Academy, will be the fifth session of free cardiac testing to have taken place in Frome, funded by money raised in his memory.
