Sidmouth Four Trigs Challenge raises £2,801.77 for CRY.
David Wright sent in a cheque to the value of £2,656.77 and along with donations made on the day, the Four Trigs raised a total of £2,801.77.
The Sidmouth Four Trigs is a “low-key” 17 miles circuit of Sidmouth, Devon, with just under 4000 feet of elevation. The aim is to visit the 4 trig points (triangulation pillars) around the Sid Valley, with runners choosing their own route. They must visit each trig point in order, plus take in 5 additional checkpoints to help taper the route.
However, after 6 weeks of continuous rain in East Devon, the decision was made on safety grounds to reduce the race to 3 trigs this year, avoiding the final section of coastal path, making it 13.2 miles with 2400 feet of elevation.
There was a mass start of 129 runners at 9.30am on Sunday 8th February, setting off in a clockwise direction, with the rain thankfully stopping just as the runners set off. First male home was Sam Kelly of Exmouth Harriers in 1:31:43, and first female was Lucy Cartwright of Exeter Triathlon Club in 2:09:12.
An added fun twist to this year’s event was the introduction of selfie frames around the course, for runners to strike a pose and record their muddy adventures.
David Wright (Race Organiser) and Marion Hayman would like to thank the sponsors of the event: Richard King of Kings Garden and Leisure for the medals, the selfie frames, the cakes and the funding for numerous outlays; Nigel Winchester of Ian Winchester and Sons, for the supply of bananas on route; and to Four Elms Farm which kindly offered local Four Elms apple juice to the runners.
David and Marion would also like to thank the marshals out on the course, who not only recorded the runners’ numbers, but along with providing them with water and bananas, cheered them on with great gusto. They also wish to thank the helpers in the kitchen who worked tirelessly providing jacket potatoes (with a variety of fillings), soup, tea, coffee and of course CAKE!!!
