On Friday 5th May the men’s and women’s cricket teams from University of Leeds and Leeds Beckett University went head to head in their annual T20 Cricket Varsity matches. For the 5th year the competition was in held in memory of Tommy Hardman.
Tommy was a former Leeds Beckett Student and exceptional cricket player who sadly passed away on the 28th November 2012. Tommy had been selected as Captain of the Leeds Bradford MCCU team for that season and was looking forward to leading his team out against Yorkshire, Leicestershire and Lancashire.
Since his death his family and friends have fundraised for CRY in his memory. The day itself was perfect for cricket, sunny and warm which drew lots of spectators. Both the men’s and women’s games were highly competitive with Leeds Beckett University just sneaking both wins against their rivals. The teams were delighted to be joined by Tommy’s parents on the day who kindly donated gifts to each team to help them celebrate or commiserate their results! Overall £81.89 was raised for CRY on the day.
