£8,100 was raised from St George’s BRAKE THE CYCLE campaign, with both Tearfund and Cardiac Risk in the Young (David Hill Memorial Fund) receiving £4,050 each to help BRAKE THE CYCLE of world poverty and Young Sudden Cardiac Deaths.
Rodger and Lesley Hill were cycling as representatives of St George’s and CRY, and in memory of Rodger’s 30-year-old son David who died suddenly in March 2022 while playing rugby in Dublin from an undiagnosed heart condition. Since then, Rodger, Lesley and their wider family and friends have worked tirelessly with Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY) to raise awareness of Young Sudden Cardiac Deaths and to improve the cardiac health of young people in the region. Thanks to their ongoing fundraising for the CRY David Hill Memorial Fund, they are making cardiac screening more accessible to young people in Dumfries and Galloway. They also provide defibrillators and CPR training to schools through the DH9 Foundation, which they have set up in David’s memory.
Joining Marion, Rodger and Lesley on the cycle were fellow cyclists from St George’s; Rev Donald Campbell, Erin Campbell, Andy McDougall, Dave McAdam, David Mowat, Tony Read and Lorna Read, with many others supporting the project in different ways.
