A mother whose daughter died from heart failure has been touched that a local toddle has donated money to Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
Parents and young children from Netherfields and Park End Community Centres, in Middlesbrough, walked around the town's Stewart Park recently, raising more than £600 for the charity.
They came up with the idea after speaking to the Stronger Together East Middlesbrough (Stem) community activities officer, Craig Woodhouse.
He said: "This seemed like a great way of combining exercise and raising some funds for what is a very worthwhile cause."
Margo Wright, for Netherfields, lost her daughter, Mandy, to heart failure in 2001, at the age of 32.
She left two sons, aged seven and 11.
She added: "I want to give thanks to all of those who took part in the walk, and to Craig for organising the event. The number of young people who have died due to heart failure has risen in recent years.
"The walk was a very special event to me as I lost my young daughter to heart failure."
CRY is a charity founded in 1995 to provide support and information on cardiac risk in young people.
