The USW Badminton Club are so happy to announce that we exceeded our £500 fundraising target and raised a total of £875 for CRY over the 24/25 season. Our amateur badminton tournament was such a success in raising money and awareness, but also introducing lots of newcomers to our sport and encouraging them to take up a fun, friendly and low pressure sport to improve their physical and mental wellbeing. On top of our tournament, we hosted and Christmas and Summer ball to give our players a chance to get out of the sports gear and dress up for an evening of celebration with the club. These were our most successful events, raising over £600 of our total in the two nights, and everyone had a blast both times!
We also hosted ‘Bring a Pound’ sessions to further our fundraising, used posters, flyers, stickers and social media posts to educate our club members.
We are grateful to be able to raise so much and to support our teammate Ethan who underwent open heart surgery in early 2024 to replace his aortic valve and treat his endocarditis. Ethan requested this as our chosen charity for the season, and set us the challenge of raising £500, so to exceed that has been so rewarding. Thanks to the amazing care Ethan received in hospital, and his speedy and successful recovery, he was able to attend all the events this year, and even formed one half of our ‘Team CRY’ in the tournament.
The club would like to thank CRY and all it’s crew for the amazing work they do to support young people and their families, and also for all the efforts they put into raising awareness, pushing for more heart screenings for young people, and funding research. It’s been both a privilege and a pleasure to support this charity.
