The Ladies’ section of Frome Golf Club organised several events during the past year to raise money for charity.
A Turkey Trot round at Christmas was supported by members in fancy dress, which included a court jester, French maid, Andy Pandy and a scarecrow.
At Easter the members braved strong winds and dressed as rabbits and chickens.
Helped by raffles, ยฃ450 has been raised for the charity Cardiac Risk in the Young (CRY).
CRY has been supported by Frome couple Shirley and Dave Wort for the past eight years following the death of their 28-year-old son Julian.
Julian died from a rare heart condition called hypertrophic obstructive cardiomyopathy.
He had been ill earlier in his life but doctors did not realised he had an enlarged heart muscle and instead thought he had asthma.
Since his death, Mr and Mrs Wort have campaigned for the Julian Wort Memorial Fund and CRY.
Their aim has been to raise money for heart monitoring equipment.
Mrs Wort, who is a member of staff at the golf club said: “We contacted CRY and through them were given a lot of support.ย We then decided to do some fundraising and CRY set up the Julian Wort Memorial Fund.”
So far, the fund has raised ยฃ23,918 and donated two electrocardiogram machines, one of them to the Frome Medical Practice and the other to the town’s Victoria Hospital.
The fund also gave a defibrillator to the hospital.
CRY has ordered another defibrillator, which will go to the new hospital, due to open in June.ย It needs to raise ยฃ3,600 for the machine.
Mrs Wort said: “We have ยฃ2,202 in the fund at the moment and we are appealing to any clubs, pubs or organisations to help us reach our target.
“Julian’s fund is ongoing through CRY and the defibrillator will be handed over to the minor injuries department, hopefully before the opening of the new hospital.
