May we, through the Frome & Somerset Standard, thank everyone who has helped us reach our target for the defibrillator, which we donated to the Victoria Hospital, in memory of our son Julian, through CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young.)
We started our appeal in March 2004, hoping to raise £4,000. Our first event was an Easter Bingo at the South Parade Club, which raised £131; many thanks to the committee for letting us use their facilities.
A successful disco was held at the football club in April and thanks to Paul McGuinness we raised £762.
We have had many other donations; Frome Town Youth held a football tournament, Mike Bishop organised a quiz night, we had our own summer quiz, and The Mill at Rode held a spectacular fire walk and duck race, raising an amazing £1,786.
The Land Warfare Centre at Warminster chose CRY as their charity for 2004, and £1,309 was donated, £1,000 of this amount was given by Landmarc Support Services, Bob Morris who organised this, knew Julian from school.
We have also been given personal donations in lieu of presents from a 70th birthday, a golden wedding anniversary, also a very close friend of Julian gave a wonderful donation, two local golfers donated £40, Frome Rugby Club collected almost £100 from the collecting box on the bar, plus our local takeaways, Chung Ying and Kingfisher, have collecting boxes.
We have now raised the money for the defibrillator, and have about £2,000 held with CRY for our next (undecided) project.
We would especially like to thank all our family and friends and everyone who has supported us in our fundraising events.
And of course the reporters and photographers who have done an excellent job covering all our write-ups etc.
