London Marathon 2026 Write up

A huge thank you and congratulations from all at CRY to our amazing runners who took part in the 2026 TCS London Marathon!

On Sunday 26th April 2026 #TeamCRY got to complete the iconic 26.2 miles through London. We were delighted to have 107 runners take part on behalf of CRY, raising both vital funds and awareness.

The 2026 London Marathon was a Guiness World Record breaker for the largest number of finishers! A total of 59,830 runners completed the route compared to the previous record of 59,226 finishers set by the New York City Marathon in November 2025.

CRY volunteers and staff were based out on the route at miles 12 and 23 to spur our CRY runners on as they tackled the less-than-ideal running conditions.

This was the second year that CRY had been based at the Sofitel London St James, with the proximity to the finish line being highlighted by supporters and volunteers. We were so pleased to welcome 33 of our runners, along with their families and friends, back to see us after they had finished. It was a pleasure for CRY staff to meet everyone in person and thank them for their incredible efforts and dedication to the charity.

As the runners gradually arrived at the hotel, they were welcomed back by CRY staff and volunteers with applause and cheers in recognition of the fantastic achievement they accomplished! They were offered a CRY medal, photographed by CRY staff, offered a complimentary drink and food, followed by a massage from a therapist with the aim of easing the inevitable aches they would be experiencing, finally followed with a warm-well deserved shower after their outstanding efforts on the day.

Thank you so much to the runners and supporters who were able to come and meet us. A huge thank you to all our wonderful volunteers. These include:

Masseuses: Edward Bridger; Andy Clarke; Chris Ebbern and Aleksandra Kolesnikova

Reflexologist: Caroline Beswick

Stationed at Mile 12: Sarah and Luke Austin; Charlie and Nick Hudson; Alex MacLeod (in memory of Hannah Pointing); Kate Pine (in memory of Sam Ashcroft); Emma Rogers and Rebecca Urry

Stationed at Mile 23: Susan Bailey; Abdel Najid; Caroline and Peter Gard (in memory of Andrew Gard); Rikesh Mistry; Suzanne Rowan (in memory Robert Rowan) and Dean Sharpe

Reception: Bella Cuka; Emelia Grose; Phil and Wendy Harrington (in memory of Barry Nivett) and Edi Sejdini

There was a wide variety of emotions on the day, especially for those who have been personally affected. We hope that the experience was a positive one for those involved.

Finally, we would like to thank the CRY runners for their fantastic efforts and valued support. We really appreciate you taking part on behalf of CRY. Congratulations and thank you to you all!

Kind regards, The CRY Team
