Virtual Events

Social-distanced sports day

You could challenge your neighbours to a sports day! You could ask them to donate to CRY to take part to raise money for the charity and have a small prize for the household that are crowned champions! Please ensure you follow social distancing rules if doing this challenge.

Please also ensure that if you are sharing equipment to wipe this down with each use.

Online Gaming

Set up an online tournament with friends and family. Compete with each other to be crowned the champion! All you need to do this is to use a system like this:

As each result is confirmed, the winning participant moves forward to the next round.

Alternatively, you can game for a set amount of time (e.g. 24 hours) playing your favourite game. In addition to this you can also stream your progress for others to watch along and encourage you!

Quiz

Many people have already been holding virtual quizzes during this lockdown period. Why not introduce a “CRY themed” round amongst some other quiz rounds such as general knowledge, what’s in the news, music round etc.
Ask for a donation for others to take part in the quiz!

Virtual Story Time

Hold a virtual story time with your family every day at a certain time. This can be done via various virtual means. There are lots of virtual stories free of charge online: https://www.worldbookday.com/storytime-online/. 

Make a small donation to take part or when you finish a story.

Bake Off

Hold a virtual bake-off competition between family, friends and colleagues. Make it a fundraiser and ask for a donation to CRY for taking part? CRY has recipes available from our CRY Great Cake bake 2019 recipe booklet!

If you are musically talented, use your skills to hold a virtual gig online through Facebook live, Instagram live or YouTube. Enable others to enjoy your live music whilst raising funds for CRY! Stream a performance

If you are a dance teacher you could hold a lesson via Zoom and ask for donations to participate to go to CRY.

Make-up/hair artist – Could hold tutorials via Zoom and ask for donations to go to CRY.

Organise and hold a virtual cooking class. Ask your family, friends and colleagues to sponsor you or set up a fundraising page to gather donations. Try out a new recipe or a speciality you are more familiar with!

Find the challenge best suited to you, whether this be working towards running a half marathon in your local community, holding a virtual cookery class or a head shave at home – you decide!

Promote your fundraising with a selfie

Fundraisers with pictures on their online fundraising page raise 14% more per photo!

Posting a selfie while you are out training, or perhaps half-way through a head shaving challenge and sharing the selfie on social media, WhatsApp and email can help boost donations!

Regularly update your fundraising page

Let supporters know how you are doing by updating your online fundraising page often; they will enjoy following your progress and are more likely to donate following an update.

Encourage others to join you!

Why not see if any friends or family would also like to take on your challenge and help raise even more funds!
You could even set up a zoom video call while you are training / participating in the challenge and do it together!
Additional support is powerful and the more people involved, the wider the message will spread.

Send a personalised note to your friends and family, kindly asking them to share your page on their social media accounts too!

Asking your friends and family to share your page on social media can help encourage other to support you! You can also ask people to share your online fundraising page if they can not donate, helping to raise awareness is also a great way to support CRY.
