New for 2019

Improved Route & Start/Finish

New for 2019, walkers will experience a quirkier, more historical route, through the cobbled streets in London along with fantastic views along the river Thames.

This year’s event will be starting and finishing in Southwark Park, near the Band Stand and is approximately 5.5 miles long. The new venue enable us to start and finish at the same place and provide some extra activities and facilities at the end of the walk.

There is also an accessible route which is wheelchair/buggy friendly and is also approx. 5.5 miles long.

Post Walk Activities

Once the walkers have completed the walk, everyone is welcome to enjoy the afternoon together and have the opportunity to speak with other families going through the same tragedy.

There will be a selection of food stalls on site where you can purchase food for the afternoon, or if you prefer to bring your own picnic, that’s completely fine. Please note: all food vendors will kindly be donating 15% of their profits made on the day to CRY.

There will be some performances on the bandstand along with some speeches.

The New Start & Finish

The event will start and finish in Southwark Park, Gomm Rd, London SE16 2TX. The event will be starting and finishing in Southwark Park, near the Band Stand. The new venue enable us to start and finish at the same place and provide some extra activities and facilities at the end of the walk.

Close to three underground stations, Bermondsey, Canada Water and Surrey Quays.

The Route

Walkers will follow the pathway along the river towards the famous Tower Bridge, crossing over one of London’s smallest Bridges and through some of London’s oldest cobbled streets, Shad Thames. As the walkers cross over Tower Bridge, they will pass the Tower of London, making their way onto the Thames Pathway towards Millennium Bridge. Once walkers have picked up a drink from the drinks station at the top of the stairs on Millennium Bridge, the route leads them over what was once called ‘the wobbly bridge’ and onto Bankside. Heading back towards Tower Bridge, Southside, the route passes by some of London’s famous landmarks, such as Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre, The Golden Hinde Ship, Southwark Cathedral and City Hall. Following the pathway back through the streets of Rotherhithe, walkers will be welcomed back into Southwark Park.

I would walk 500 miles and I would walk 500 more to be the person who walked 1000 miles the wrong way round London!
